Photo Gallery ~ Week 6 Now (Click thumbnails for enlargements--Scroll to the bottom for first entry on this page) March 22, 2008 - Here Comes the Sun Free at last. The chicks are enjoying a patch of real ground and grass made available for them by placing 3 chain link fence panels around the large sliding barn door opening. With that door and the coop gate open, the chicks can cross a small distance in the barn to their new space. See what the enclosure looks like under the "Coop" tab above. No one wanted to be the first one to make the journey to the sun, so I caught a few of the chicks and placed them outside the coop. By the time half of them were out, they became brave and lured their sisters to join them in the outdoors. Here they are doing what chickens do. March 21, 2008 - Six weeks old already! The chicks are beginning to look like mini hens as their bodies round. One Black Australorp and one Light Brahma are quite tame. They will allow me to slide my hand under their bodies and lift them--if I move slowly. Now (Click thumbnails for enlargements--Scroll to the bottom for first entry on this page) |
