Photo Gallery ~ Spring 2010
Now || 2017 || 2016 || 2015 (Click thumbnails for enlargements--Scroll to the bottom for first entry on this page) After a loss last month and increased demand for eggs, I've decided to add to the flock now rather than wait till next winter. Seven more Easter Egger chicks came home with me from the feed store. Here are the day old cuties. I love to see what color feathers the various colored babies will have when they grow up. I'm also wondering if any of these will look the same as similar EEs a year ago. They are named (not creatively!) so I can track their colors as they grow.
May 5, 2010 - A Death in the Family The second hen lost to unknown causes--last time was December 7. This was my only Light Brahma. She lay peacefully on her side in the coup this morning. Both losses were from the original group--2 year old birds. Since I didn't lose any of the babies or young birds, I'm still ahead of the odds. I'll miss this girl who was forever talking. Here are pictures of her happy life. The girls are enjoying a cloudy day in their pasture. If I sit in one spot long enough, everyone visits me to have their picture taken--well except for a few that are laying eggs in the barn. March 25, 2010 - The Incredible Egg! We've got eggs. With Easter just around the corner, they are coming out already colored! We are averaging about 15 eggs a day from 22 hens. My regular customers are getting their full requests. I have added a new customer who was looking for eggs from happy chickens after he saw the movie Food Inc. It's a documentary about animal and egg production in the USA available on DVD/Netflix. Below is the result of a big day for the girls.
