Pond Specs

Spreadsheet drawing I used Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software to "draw" the pond perimeter and calculate the volume (blue on the drawing). Entering depth in feet in the cells within the pond area, you can use that total to calculate cubic feet--a pretty good calculation of how much water it takes to fill the area.

Our contractor designed the filter area separately, but used my drawing to get blueprints made.

This is basically a small swimming pool with a biological filter!

    • Gunnite walls with dark plaster finish

    • 2,600 gallon pond capacity, 800 gallons in filter/settling chamber for total 3,400 gallons

    • 4 feet deep

    • 2 bottom drains remove fish waste and debris

    • 28 sq foot biological filter, settling tank and drain pit

    • 4 foot high waterfall

    • 3 pumps

      • 3/4 hp circulating pump runs once a day
      • 1/6 hp filter pump runs 7x24
      • sump pump

    • Time clock operates circulating jets once a day

    • Skimmer to remove leaves

    • Auto fill on a float keeps water level constant

    • 400 watt pool light (may have been a surprise to the fish at first, but has become the signal for feeding time)

    • 80 watt UV light
