I used Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software to "draw" the pond perimeter and calculate the volume (blue on the drawing). Entering depth in feet in the cells within the pond area, you can use that total to calculate cubic feet--a pretty good calculation of how much water it takes to fill the area.

Our contractor designed the filter area separately, but used my drawing to get blueprints made.

This is basically a small swimming pool with a biological filter!
