Pond Specs
I used Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software to "draw" the pond perimeter
and calculate the volume (blue on the drawing). Entering depth in feet
in the cells within the pond area, you can use that total to calculate
cubic feet--a pretty good calculation of how much water it takes to fill
the area.
Our contractor designed the filter area
separately, but used my drawing to get blueprints made.
This is basically a small swimming
pool with a biological filter!

800 gallons in filter/settling chamber for total 3,400 gallons
- 4 feet deep
- 2 bottom drains remove
fish waste and debris
- 28 sq foot biological
filter, settling tank and drain pit
- 4 foot high waterfall
- 3 pumps
- 3/4 hp circulating
pump runs once a day
- 1/6 hp filter pump
runs 7x24
- sump pump
- Time clock operates circulating
jets once a day
- Skimmer to remove leaves
- Auto fill on a float keeps
water level constant
- 400 watt pool light (may
have been a surprise to the fish at first, but has become the signal
for feeding time)
- 80 watt UV light
