Construction - Filter

Filter It's February and we've been testing and occasionally brushing the pond walls all winter. Time to set up the filter.

Pumps to run water jets and to circulate water through the filter and back to waterfall will be placed in the small chamber at the very top of the top photo. The larger chamber in front on the top photo is the bio filter--the same chamber you see completed in the second photo.

What's not quite visible in the top photo, far right is the settling chamber where fish waste is deposited before water enters the bio filter.

No pictures of trips back and forth filling the gravel bed. The medium is lightweight white rock to a depth of about 24 inches. Spraying water over the gravel gives the bacteria a bit more air.
