As with many beginners, I'm attracted to orchids that are dramatic and easy to grow under home conditions--that bloom reliably with minimal care--with flowers that last a long time. In a word, Phalaenopsis!

Phalaeopsis or "Moth Orchid" has attractive glossy green foliage and many large flowers displayed on gracefully arching stems lasting eight weeks or more. Most often seen in white and pink, hybridizers have introduced many flower colors including yellow, red and combinations of colors--there is even a plant with variagated leaf color.

Of course, I need a greenhouse for the "bug" to really take hold. Till then, I'll be happy to improve my small collection as well as my orchid culture skills.
